Nestled on the shores of Lake Rotorua lies Polynesian Spa – a geothermal bathing and soul-soothing retreat, where you can experience wellness sourced from Rotorua’s very own backyard.
Polynesian Spa has been an icon of the Rotorua Tourism Industry since it was established in 1972. Our world-leading natural hot mineral bathing and spa treatment facilities were built on the site of historic bathhouses for which the city first became world famous in the 1800s with advertising slogans of the day inviting people to “come take the waters”.
Many of these historic building elements can still be seen on our site. The original Priest Pools – acidic surface springs are heritage protected and waters are reticulated to our pools daily, maintaining an important historic link.
Waters from two natural springs are fed into the 28 mineral pools at Polynesian Spa. The acidic Priest Spring relieves tired muscles, aches and pains while the alkaline waters of the Rachel Spring from the nearby spring in the Government Gardens nourish and rejuvenate skin.
